The Man They Threw Out of City Hall

Donors. Reporters. Council members. Wealthy guests with polished shoes and careful expressions.

“Speak to someone?” Voss repeated. “You walked into a private municipal event looking like you slept under a bridge.”

A woman near the front desk gasped.

The old man lowered his eyes.

“I served this city once,” he said softly.
