The Man They Threw Out of City Hall

Mayor Voss began his speech, his voice filled the room with practiced warmth.

“Today is not about politics,” he said.

Everyone clapped, even though everyone knew it was entirely about politics.

“This center represents compassion. Dignity. Respect for those who gave everything.”

The word dignity made my stomach twist.
